| Fish in the famous White River, Lake Avery, Meadow Lake, Trappers Lake, or Vaughn Lake. Species of fish include rainbow, brown and native cutthroat trout, and whitefish. | ||||

| For a truly unforgettable experience, try fishing in one of the many pristine alpine lakes or clear mountain streams in the Flat Tops Wilderness Area. There are roughly 100 miles of fishable streams and more than 100 lakes and ponds, many of which are unnamed. | ||||

| Hunting for big game animals such as elk and deer is what Meeker is best known for. The White River National Forest is home to the largest herd of migratory elk in the U.S. Both public land and private ranch hunts are available. | ||||

| Horseback riding is one of the most spectacular ways to enjoy the majestic views in the Flat Tops and National Forest. There are many trailheads nearby that offer easy access. Combine your trip with an overnight camp-out and enjoy a peaceful evening sleeping under the brilliant Rocky Mountain stars. | ||||

| Snowmobiling in the White River area is absolutely fabulous. It allows you to see more of the backcountry in a shorter amount of time. The White River Snowmobile Club marks and maintains 178 miles of trails in eastern Rio Blanco County. The club grooms 78 miles and leaves the rest as natural trails that can challenge even the best of riders. Outfitters and trailheads for snowmobiling and horseback riding are located within minutes of your front door. | Go for a leisurely drive along the 82-mile long Flat Tops Trail, also known as County Road 8. This National Forest Scenic Byway boasts some of Colorado’s most stunning aspen colors and magnificent scenic views. The road follows the White River eastward, then turns northeast over Ripple Creek Pass and on to Yampa. Or take a day trip to Rocky Mountain National Park or Dinosaur National Monument. | ||||

| Attend some of the annual town events such as the Meeker Classic Sheepdog Championship Trials, the Smoking River Pow-Wow, or the 4th of July Range Call Rodeo and Parade. | ||||

| The Wilderness Area has over 300 miles of trails on 235,000 acres. Take a long nature hike and breathe the pure crisp air, listen to the gentle sound of a mountain stream, smell the fragrant pines, feel the cool canyon breeze, look for wildlife – just enjoy the outdoors! | ||||
